Janice & Brian have been involved with animals all their lives. In her school days, Janice showed ponies and owned collies and as an adult, she became more orientated to dogs, showing Japanese shiba Inu & training dobermanns for working trials and obedience. Brian has a lifetime involvement with boxers. Eventually the obvious move to working with animals took place and we brought Cottage Boarding Kennels and Cattery in 2000. We live our lives with a deep dedicated passion for all animals ; we are involved with dog rescue as well as the boarding kennels & cattery, so caring for animals is our life and labour of love. We also have a life long interest in horses and keep three of our own, riding whenever time permits.

It certainly was ‘love at first sight ’ for us when we laid our eyes on a friends' shiba back in 1995. Besotted with what we saw we persuaded our friend to let us buy her shiba and consequently Lou-Lou joined us and became our foundation bitch. Her Kennel Club name was Geifang Hocus Pocus at Janeryl. Lou-Lou did us very proud in the show ring winning 2 Reserve Challenge Certificates and winning 21 firsts from 23 outings at Championship shows.

She was Best Puppy at Crufts in 1996 and Reserve Best in Show at the Shiba Inu Club show the following year. Lou-Lou went on to produce 2 litters of lovely pups for which we shall be forever grateful - she is the mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of many of the shibas in the ‘Janeryl ’ photo gallery.
We have now been involved with Shibas for 10 years, whilst showing has its rewards, the real enjoyment comes from the companionship of these great little dogs - first and foremost they are our friends and companions. There is no finer experience in life than being out walking on a beautiful day with the shibas & pointers watching them running free, playing together knowing that they are happy, content dogs.
Occasionally we breed a litter hoping for our next show dog. Our prime objective when planning a litter is to breed happy, healthy dogs of sound mind and body. The shiba is a relatively healthy, hardy breed with few hereditary problems, and we endeavour to help keep it that way by having our dog’s eye tested and patella checked before breeding. Any dog we sell, leaves here with a lifetime after sales advisory service and a promise that we will always take back any dog, which we have bred, that can't be kept by the new owners for any reason.
We hope you enjoy your visit to our site and we look forward to answering any further questions you may have about shibas
Our dogs love visitors so feel free to come and meet our 'Japanese Treasures' and experience a true shiba welcome. But be prepared to lose your heart to this little magical oriental dog!
